01Introduction
Introduction to ESI and PF registration
The Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 and the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 provide the statutory framework for employee social security in India.
The ESI scheme provides eligible insured employees with benefits relating to medical care, maternity, disability, dependants and other applicable benefits. PF, on the other hand, helps provide employees with long-term financial security and retirement savings.
Eligible establishments are required to obtain the applicable registrations and enrol eligible employees under the respective schemes. Employers must also ensure timely contributions, proper maintenance of records and compliance with applicable statutory requirements.
02ESI & PF
What is ESI registration, and what is PF registration?
ESI Registration Online is the process through which eligible employers register their establishment under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme through the official ESIC portal. After successful registration, the establishment receives a unique 17-digit Employer Code Number, which is used for future ESI-related compliance and contribution activities. The scheme is funded through prescribed contributions made by employers and eligible employees.
PF Registration, also known as EPF Registration, is the process of registering an eligible establishment under the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, administered by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. Its primary objective is to help employees build long-term savings and financial security for retirement through regular contributions made by both the employer and employee.
